8/28/2023 0 Comments Nakamichi 600 tape deckBut it was Niro who later took over and gave the firm its greatest fame as provider of the world's finest (and most expensive) cassette decks. The company bearing his name was founded by his brother Esturo in 1948 as a research outfit before it veered into reel-to-reel tape deck design in the 1950s. Furthermore, minor azimuth differences between the angle of the play head and that of the original recording deck (a given with prerecorded cassettes) undermines any attempt to tune the deck for perfect repeatability.įortunately for audiophiles, these and other obstacles indigenous to the cassette became a source of fascination for Niro Nakamichi. To make matters worse, the ideal cassette deck needs to retain that “azimuth” alignment even after the tape is turned over or the tape direction reversed (and/or the head flipped) for playing of the B-side. Any minor variance from perpendicularity results in a potentially dramatic loss of high frequencies. Notably, the small size and physics of the cassette calls for near-perfect alignment of the vertical gap in the playback head across the width of the tape. Eventually, new metal tape formulations further improved performance. Dual-capstan decks reduced speed variations by grabbing the tape on both the feed and take-up sides of the head cluster. Dolby B noise reduction, released in 1971 in Advent's Model 201 cassette deck, was a step in the right direction, as was the introduction of three-head decks with dedicated heads for erase, recording, and playback. While reel-to-reel magnetic tape introduced the concept of the “mixtape” decades earlier, it was not until the cassette's launch by Philips in 1963 and its later adoption in automobile decks and portables in the 1970s that music lovers got the ability to create personal playlists and take them to-go in a convenient, pocket-friendly format.īut eeking out high-fidelity from a design that traded a consumer reel-to-reel's ¼-inch wide tape and typically 7-1/2 inch-per-second maximum speed for a 0.15-inch strip running at a meager 1-7/8 inches per second was not without challenges. If you were an audiophile in the late 1970s or early 1980s-or just a teenager with a fresh driver's license-the Compact Cassette was integral to your life. The analog era saw a great many high-end cassette decks, but none as famous or sought after as the Nakamichi Dragon. 8/28/2023 0 Comments Diffraction definition opticsWhile there are designs for isotropic negative index metamaterials (NIMs), 46,47 there exists no experimental 3D isotropic optical NIMs suitable for perfect imaging as envisioned by Pendry due to the constraints of nanofabrication and absorptive losses. 17,44,45 However, these superlenses only operate in the electrostatic limit, which restricts the operation to a single polarization of the light in the near field of the superlens. The advent of metamaterials with simultaneously negative permittivity and permeability 41 brought renewed interest in the properties of left-handed materials first proposed by Veselago, 42 which Pendry demonstrated could be applied to sub-diffraction-limited imaging with his “perfect lens.” 15 Pendry’s seminal paper inspired the experimental verification of negative refractive index 43 and “superlenses” that demonstrate sub-diffraction-limited resolution in the near-field. This is the basis for applying near-field optics to imaging beyond the diffraction limit.Īt the turn of the new millennium, imaginative new approaches for controlling electromagnetic waves began to appear for imaging, 15–23 photovoltaics, 24–26 quantum information processing and simulations, 27–31 wireless communications, 32,33 and novel optical materials, 34–40 among many others. Therefore, an obvious approach to imaging beyond the diffraction limit is to access the near-field within a distance z ≪ λ where the evanescent components containing high spatial frequency information are not yet fully attenuated. A simple analysis of optical imaging systems reveals that the Fourier components of an image greater than ω / c evanescently decay along the optical axis. However, the desire to do things such as imaging biomolecular processes in vivo and characterizing subsurface features in nanoelectronics requires us to return to optical methods and find a way to beat the diffraction limit. In contrast to conventional optical microscopy, avoiding the use of photons to gather image information at this length scale means that Abbe’s diffraction limit 1 poses no problem. The development of technologies such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) offered a dramatic new insight into physical structures at the nanometer scale. 8/28/2023 0 Comments Xcode tutorial bookThat's 19 SwiftUI projects and 39 UIKit projects, spread over 2000 pages of tutorials and example code, plus exclusive bonus content! Jump start your Swift learning: get the complete Hacking with iOS series as downloadable e-books. And if you need a reference guide consider the iOS 10 cookbook. All the other intermediate-to-advanced books in this list will give you a leg up on the industry. Both titles are very friendly to beginners and they’ll teach you the fundamentals of Swift as a language, regardless of how you use it.īut if you want to get into deep iOS development you’ll want to take your knowledge further. To get started with the basics I would always recommend the Swift Nerd Ranch Guide or even Swift Essentials. And I have a feeling these books will help many readers interested in learning Swift for iOS. These are my picks for the ten best books in the world of Swift development. That’s why I recommend Stephen’s book because it’s easy to read and you only need some prior Swift experience to get started. But many people do, and the specificity of game development can be too much for some people to handle. Not everyone wants to build games for iOS. Then you’ll delve into Apple’s physics framework and by the end of the book you’ll have created a working iOS game from scratch. You start with the basics of animation and creating sprites on the screen. Stephen teaches you everything about the submission process, iOS game techniques, and SpriteKit + how it applies to modern Swift programming. You don’t need to know anything about mobile development or the App Store submission process. Game Development with Swift teaches you how to build iOS games without any prior gaming experience. This was written by Stephen Haney, an SF Bay area Swift developer with years of experience building mobile games. Lastly I want to cover one of the more unique specialized Swift programming books. This book will offer guidance and push you towards the right direction for learning. The current Swift 2.3 is wildly popular but many developers are quickly moving to Swift 3. I really like this title because of the length and freshness of content(it’s a very new publication). It’s definitely unique but also learnable with enough time and patience. Programmers moving from Objective-C and Cocoa should have no problem picking up this language. Learning Swift is an intro guide made for iOS and OS X development. The newer O’Reilly books have been incredible and I’m always impressed with their level of quality. But I think the author covers Swift in a way that helps beginners understand the concepts pragmatically for real world projects. I can’t say this is the ultimate #1 Swift book because it may not be everyone’s favorite choice. It comes with everything you need to get started along with quality practice demos and tutorials. So if I had to pick the absolute best Swift book for a beginner I would recommend Swift Programming: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide. If you’re just getting into Swift for iOS development you may be overwhelmed by this list. I would like to have it under $50, because at a $100 price, I would rather buy me some airpods again for a little more, would have more benefits, because I have an iPhone. Stenza Warrior: A Stenza warrior wears his conquests. The Doctor: Why the teeth? Bad enough you kill, why take a tooth from the victim? The Doctor: Yeah well, we all need a hobby. Stenza Warrior: You’re interfering in things you don’t understand. Well I say screwdriver but it’s a bit more multipurpose than that. ‘Cause there’s one thing I’m certain of, when people need help, I never refuse. And I have to hold my nerve and trust all these new instincts. There’s echoes of who I was and a sort of call towards who I am. The Doctor: Right now, I’m a stranger to myself. The Doctor: I’m good at building things! Probably! I’m slower because of all this fizzing inside. Graham: Now- Now you’re all running at it! he runs after them. Yaz: Don’t just stand there, c’mon! she runs after it. Graham: Why is she running at another alien? The Doctor: Don’t you move! she runs after the alien Brain and body still rebooting, reformatting. The Doctor: Show me your collarbones. Oh, you’ve all got them. I never go anywhere that’s just initials. Graham: Oh yeah, maybe I won’t mention that bit. The Doctor: And you say you just found it there, this thing? The Doctor: Obvious question, but has anyone noticed anything else out of the ordinary tonight? Ryan slowly raises his hand The Doctor: Why not? I’m alien and I’m here. Anyway even if there was, they ain’t gonna be on a train in Sheffield. Graham O’Brien (Bradley Walsh): Are we supposed to understand anything you’re saying? Well it could be the end of the world, but one thing at a time. It was exploding and then it dematerialized. She said, “As of June 2023…3 of the 4 members of Team USA’s 4×100m relay team…who ran the SECOND fastest time in history, and brought home THEE gold medal…have nearly died or did die in childbirth. And something needs to change drastically.ĪMY GOODMAN: I mean, I wanted to read Bowie’s Olympic teammate Tianna Bartoletta’s tweet, which is just stunning, after learning of her death. There is bias and there’s racism within our medical institutions. And it goes to show just that these patients, these women, their concerns aren’t necessarily being heard. It’s just - it’s incredible, the disparities that you’ve mentioned and just how Black women are dying throughout the country, in New York state, in New York City especially, where it’s up to 12 times more than white women. Can you talk about the significance of this enormous disparity between white women and Black women dying in or before or right after childbirth, Dr. Carla Williams, board-certified OB- GYN, who opted to have home births herself - an OB- GYN - after her first hospital birthing experience. The CDC recently marked Black Maternal Health Week in April, noting Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy complications than white women. Tori Bowie, who was Black, won bronze, silver and gold medals in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The Orange County, Florida, medical examiner reported she was eight months pregnant and in labor when she died, most likely from eclampsia, a complication of pregnancy. Tori was just 32 years old when she died at home last month. And if the IOC responded by developing more sophisticated testing methods, the cheaters combated that by taking diuretics and other masking agents that cover up the usage of drugs.AMY GOODMAN: This is Democracy Now! I’m Amy Goodman, as we end today’s show looking at the death of Olympic track and field star Tori Bowie and an often ignored issue: the Black maternal health crisis. The first Olympic athlete to be disqualified was Swedish pent athlete Hans-Gunnar Liljenvali who tested positive for excessive alcohol. In 1960, Danish cyclist Knut Jensen died during the team road races after taking amphetamines and nicotinyl tartrate.įinally, in 1967, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) began outlawing drugs. And you can trace the usage of performance enhancing drugs and concoctions to 1904 when Thomas Hicks - the marathon winner - took strychnine and brandy during the race. The most complicated area in which technology had affected the Olympics is drugs and drug testing. The revolutionary bike used by Chris Boardman to win the 1992 individual pursuit was officially described as an "advanced composite monocoque with minimum-drag aerodynamic cross-sections, formed with unidirectional and stitched high-strength carbon fibre in an epoxy resin matrix". Cycling too has been aided by technology. This resets your router and will make your home network faster and more stable. Just take out the power plug, wait 10 seconds and put it back in. There are two lanes, or paths, that ground cards will utilize and they will move along these paths towards the enemy base, stopping to attack anything they can reach along the way. You are guaranteed to cycle through every card within the first 1 or 2 minutes of gameplay. Your deck will cycle through these cards in the order they are played, with the only random part being the initial starting order. Each player picks a deck of 10 unique cards, not counting wildcards, more on that later. Each player picks a Master, who has a unique set of abilities with their own strengths and weaknesses. In Minion Masters you play either solo or as a two man team, with the sole objective to destroy the enemy tower whilst protecting your own tower.
